Internet icon Internet | Oops! Google Sent 'Worm' to E-mail List
Google sent out a worm on their mailing list by accident. Oops!
"E-mail subscribers to Google's (Quote) video blog got more than they bargained for from a mailing this week.

The search giant accidentally e-mailed the notorious "Kama Sutra" worm to subscribers of its Google Video e-mail list.

Three posts sent to the 50,000 subscribers of the Google Video Blog e-mail group included the W32/Kasper.A@mm mass mailing worm, according to Google.

Also known as the Kama Sutra worm, the security threat, while largely harmless, gained the moniker in February after being distributed disguised as e-mailed porn."

Gaming icon Gaming | Sony PS3s released in Japan
So who's camping for one?
"At 7am today, the shutters of Asobit City game shop in the Akihabara district of Tokyo will open, and Mr Ishikawa will be at the front of the queue to become one of the first people to own the Sony PlayStation 3. The PS3 is the newest games console in the world, and an immeasurable amount of money and credibility rests on its launch.

For Sony, this is an opportunity for success after a dismal spell. For gamers like Mr Ishikawa it is the most powerful games system in the world, quite apart from its capabilities as a storage system for photographs, music and a player of new-generation Blu-ray DVDs."

Technology icon Technology | Microsoft adopts the BSOD screensaver
MS acquired Winternals a few months ago and along with picking up their entire team and research, they also acquired their BSOD screensaver.
""Bluescreen cycles between different Blue Screens and simulated boots every 15 seconds or so," the BlueScreen Screen Saver v3.2 pitch continues. "Virtually all the information shown on Bluescreen's BSOD and system start screen is obtained from your system configuration - its accuracy will fool even advanced NT developers. For example, the NT build number, processor revision, loaded drivers and addresses, disk drive characteristics, and memory size are all taken from the system Bluescreen is running on."

Gaming icon Gaming | Gamestop Wii pre-order confirmed for tomorrow
Get your $50 ready, Wii pre-order is going live tomorrow at Gamestop!
"Reports on how many units are available per store vary -- one employee told Joystiq they'd be receiving 36 units, another said 32, yet another told us "under 20." Still other stores seem unwilling or unable to officially confirm the pre-order date or units available without the official word from Gamestop corporate. Regardless of what your local store tells you over the phone, though, tomorrow is definitely the day to line up if you want to reserve your Wii. We recommend you start packing your pup tent now."

Technology icon Technology | PCI Express 2.0 Due By Year's End
After four years, PCI Express is getting ready for it's final basic version.
"fter a 60-day period of review and comment, the base version of PCI Express 2.0 should be ready by year's end, the PCI SIG said, although it's unlikely to appear in any products before 2007.

Taking center stage among the other enhancements planned for PCI Express 2.0 is a doubling of the bit rate to from 2.5 gigabits per second to 5 Gbit/s. But there are also a number of planned improvements in the works for both the protocol and software layers of the architecture as well.

In addition to connecting with plug-in slots, the PCI Express Cable specification will allow PCI devices to connect using copper cables as long as 10 meters long, and with data transfer speeds of 2.5 Gbits/s per line."

Software icon Software | Microsoft plugs 26 holes
Big Tuesday update from Microsoft.
"This is the highest number of flaws Microsoft has ever addressed on a Patch Tuesday, security experts said today. Several of the vulnerabilities were either publicly exploited or there was proof-of-concept code available prior to today's update.

"What's most interesting to me about this drop is that so many issues were being exploited in the wild before Microsoft had an opportunity to patch them," ISS security researcher Tom Cross, a member of the X-Force team, told SCMagazine.com today. "There are definitely a lot of folks out there interested in installing malware on people's PCsand using those things to commit crimes."

Of the vulnerabilities, 15 are labeled critical, highlighting a continued trend toward the exploitation of holes in client-side web browsers and applications. Four of the patches address vulnerabilities in Microsoft Office components, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint, which could lead to remote code execution."

Technology icon Technology | Logitech diNovo Edge LED released!
This is one beautiful keyboard, even if it has a list price of $200.
"Logitech's diNovo Edge keyboard looks like it belongs in a museum of modern art, what with its glossy finish and illuminated keys. Due this November, the keyboard's letters and numbers are blank until activated, at which point they light up, revealing the letter or number. Fancy techno-art cannot be constrained with wires, so the Bluetooth is not only appreciated, but pretty much expected. One of the more unique features on the keyboard is the inclusion of a touch disc, which frees users from having to stretch six inches and reach for the mouse."
